Pat Robertson at the Height of Hypocrisy

There is an interesting trend lately of the “righteous” continually exhibiting their hypocrisy. They preach culture of life yet are more than willing to bomb people as a means to their end. They are willing to send our men and women to prosecute an unjust war in the name of a noble cause. They will defend to the life of the unborn yet once they’re born could not care less about them. Unless of course it is those who are terminally ill whose suffering they are only too willing to extend by meddling in a painful, private family affair.

How can somebody like Pat Robertson, supposedly a man of God, call for the assignation of anybody, let alone the leader of a sovereign nation? As a Catholic, I don’t always fully buy into the policies of the “Church” (the organization), but the teachings of Christ were the exact opposite of calling for assassination and preaching hate. Pat Robertson is no better than the Mullahs that issue fatwahs calling for killing of non-muslims and certainly not "Reverend". Pat, maybe you should go and READ the Bible and head its teachings rather than thumping it to further your own campaign of hate. The left is continually lionized for being anti-God (and frankly some are along with some righty’s but that’s their problem). This type of rhetoric is the very definition of anti-God.

On a slightly related topic, the local Bishop of Phoenix (Bishop Thomas Olmstead) has called for the ban of any speaker who goes against the teachings of the Church. The circumstance around it was excluding Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano because of her positions on abortion and gay marriage. Fair enough. That is certainly the prerogative of the Church. Again, as a Catholic, I’m not pro-death of any kind in keeping with the teachings of the Church. But I also live in the real world which is NOT black and white but billions of shades of gray. As such, war is necessary (sometimes), abortion is necessary (sometimes)... This certainly fits with the theme of this article – hypocrisy. If that’s the policy, then it should be applied equally. So, if you are President Bush (or any other supporter of the war in Iraq), you do not get to speak in my Church. (Pope Paul II had called the war in Iraq unjustified and immoral). Support the death penalty? Go away, you can’t speak in my church either. How about many righties who oppose caring for the poor yet claim they are compassionate conservatives? No pulpit time for you either. Frankly, I think its silly since it just breeds and us-them mentality and does not try to find common ground.

But of course, like much of the hypocrisy in this world, the Church rails against some things and yet conveniently ignores other. By NOT speaking out against the other problems, they are complicit in supporting them.

For yet another example of this, just look at the escapades of our previous Bishop (Thomas O’Brien). Not only did he allegedly hide molestation happening in the church. But when he killed a pedestrian in an auto accident, he simply drove away.

I'm not a bible thumper but thought this was apropos...

Matthew 23:2-4
The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.
